I’m tired of reading endless expressions of grief for the demise of traditional media. They are disappearing, but largely due to their own ineptitude. They were too stupid to recognize that an outdated distribution model has the potential to damage a business, especially if its customers consume the product with gritted teeth — there is a lesson here for the music industry and Microsoft.

Traditional media organizations in general, including television broadcasters, newspapers, magazines and radio, have failed to recognize that mass penetration of high-speed internet would ultimately result in the mass liberalization of news. We are no longer the prisoners of wealthy, elite and manipulative publishers trying to mold our opinions with subtle bias. We are free to verify stories ourselves, even go directly to the source if we wish. The rise of “the blogger” is primarily a reflex reaction to the deficiencies of a controlled mainstream press — a massive uncoordinated expression of disgust, if you will.

I still don’t think the powers that be truly comprehend the magnitude of this shift to decentralization in all aspects of our lives. We are slowly defining a new kind of city state, one that is not bound by geography; instead, communities are organizing through the internet to defend their common interests. In some ways, it’s the natural evolution of free-market capitalism. Just as the invisible hand directs the efficient allocation of capital, it also directs the efficient allocation of ideas. Bush, Murdoch and company are waging a losing war against freedom.

This is not something to be feared. Traditional media still has a role to play, but only if they return to their roots — honest and tough journalism. Mainstream media organizations as we know them today will not survive, central planning of anything ultimately results in its destruction — there is a lesson there for the Federal Reserve.

Update 2: It’s official, Ron Paul has been excluded
Update 1: This may have been a misunderstanding. The article still stands for now, we’ll see how this plays out.

Ron Paul is excluded from the next FOX news debate.

Everyone is disgusted with both party establishments and this only serves to remind us why. Of course we would rather Ron Paul be on stage, but what FOX news doesn’t understand is that a major part of his appeal is his ability to make the Republican establishment feel pain and humility. The more they play to Ron Paul’s outsider image the more he appears to be the only guy capable of truly significant changes and the more his appeal will ultimately grow.

The Ron Paul revolution is not fueled by the same corrupt ideas that support most political forces, it is fueled by many things, including outrage. Any action that increases outrage by default increases his base and further validates every claim he makes about contemporary American society. The candidate that gives News Corp. the most discomfort is the only one that can be taken seriously.

I predict this move with either be reversed or cause significant disgust and a major backlash against FOX news that will likely engulf many other networks. I’m not talking about bankruptcy, yet, just another significant drop in the number of people who look to those networks as a primary source for news. This will only further undermine the concept of centrally planned pre-packaged news as a legitimate method to disseminate impartial information. Luckily for Ron Paul supporters, the dinosaurs in charge of these propaganda machines have absolutely no comprehension of the degree to which they have lost the ability to shape American public opinion.

How many people discovered Ron Paul from one of the previous debates versus those who have discovered him online? How many people who have not watched the previous debates are likely to watch the future debates? We live in a new era and the longer it takes for those idiots at FOX news to realize it, the better.
