Am I polarizing, or is that just how people are?November 21, 2008
It amuses me to no end how the vast majority of ratings my articles receive are either 1 star or 5 stars. Am I really that controversial or do people just naturally divide into 2 groups? (Is there actually something to this 2-party system nonsense?) I don’t know the answer, but I thought I would share a few brief thoughts. Are most people either socialist or libertarian at heart, or is it only the people on the extremes who feel strongly enough about their positions to send a rating? Perhaps people vote centrist because it’s the only option available, that would explain why people on the left and right both believe Democrats and Republicans are the same, but for wildly different reasons. This is hardly a scientific study because the sample is too small and it’s limited only to people who seek information about the topics I write… but so much for a centrist population!

I would have rated this four stars. But I wanted to be consistent so I rated it five stars instead.
Rather than dividing people into liberal/conservative, or left/right, I think it’s better to divide them into ideologue/thinker. Now, to be sure, ideologues *do* think. They think about how to bolster their arguments. Theologist tend to fall into this camp. Card-carrying party members do as well.
Good points.
Perhaps a better distinction would be between idealogues and sceptics.
It is amazing to me that such an obviously intelligent person as Peter Joseph can believe so entirely in his project.
It makes one think there may be something nefarious going on.
