Ron Paul’s legacy

As the presidential campaign begins to wind down, looking back at Ron’s incredible accomplishments I am hopeful his libertarian message will be picked up by a new generation of leaders and finally begin to penetrate Washington politics.

Given the economic storm waiting on the other side of November’s election, it’s not unlikely the next president will be a new Jimmy Carter. After a new round of big government spending fails to resolve America’s problems, the country may finally swing back to its routes and begin to dismantle the wasteful parasitic institutions crawling all over Washington.

The Republican elite must have noticed that young conservatives will not sit back and watch big government neo-cons hijack their party any longer. If the party is truly as smart as its leaders pretend to be, many more people will jump on the bandwagon and lend support to another libertarian with more mainstream appeal.

The danger is that their next hand-picked small government leader will be a new George Bush and campaign on a platform engineered to earn election victory only to ultimately continue business as usual once in power. The movement will survive the campaign and must remain vigilant against opportunistic impostors.

Thank you Ron for inspiring us to remember what we always knew.
